The Breast / Correction of breast asymmetry
Correction of breast asymmetry
Sometimes breast development during puberty can be asymmetrical; an important difference in shape and/or volume may exist between the two breasts. A tuberous breast consists of an insufficient development of the mammary gland: the breast is not nicely curved; the areola can be too wide and protruding. Sometimes, one of the breasts can be one or two cup sizes smaller, which makes finding the right bra impossible and can lead to a lack in self confidence.
In general, correction of marked breast asymmetry is not performed before the age of 18. Surgical techniques vary with every patient, and can include breast reduction, breast lifting or breast augmentation. Dre Schaepkens applies often lipofilling (injection a fat), thus avoiding the use of silicone implants, especially at a young age. In some cases of important asymmetry, health insurance may cover the costs of this plastic surgery.
Regarding each treatment
After consultation and clinical examination, Dre Schaepkens van Riempst will discuss with you the possible treatment(s), each with its advantages, disadvantages and eventual complications. If appropriate, she will give you more information using sketches or pictures.
The final result of aesthetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery can often only be observed at one year after the procedure; during this time, the scars fade, the swelling decreases, the treated area becomes more harmonious and natural.
In the early postopertive period, Dre Schaepkens will see you regularly until healing is complete eventually followed by three monthly consultations during one year.
